Past Memories témoigne vraiment d'une recherche de la part de Yu pour aller vers du progrès : le chemin parcouru depuis Depression est encore plus grand ! Past Memories se rapproche un peu plus d'un album de DSBM classique, mais pas dans le mauvais sens du terme. En effet, les titres sont bien mieux structurés et variés ("Regret" se déroulant sur plusieurs phases), Yu est plus souvent présent — et tant mieux ! Il se distingue aussi par un jeu à la batterie assez vigoureux, presque progressif.

This opvs could perfectly be our last epitaph where Irrfrärd’s narrative descends into our own incandescent hell ov pain, bitterness, suffering and deep and heartbreaking sadness, but Ofdrykkja as band has a bipolar disorder that in deep wisdom knows how to combine folk melancholy with the heartbreaking distortion of their instruments that give off the stench ov decadence where last hope is found in a flight with no return under the mournful fog of an end that freezes our blood… I embrace it…

Il n'y a pas de douleur inutile. Pour moi qui suis amateur de la musique de Shining, ce chantre de l'illumination par la douleur extrême — voire par le suicide —, ce titre de Ter Ziele me parle de manière singulière. La comparaison s'arrête là, cependant, There is no useless pain offrant un DSBM d'une douleur atroce et authentique. Ne vous attendez pas à ces morceaux qui tiennent sur trois notes et 2 BPM : Déhà joue comme un virtuose, associant la mélancolie à une forme de relaxation.
